The Protection of Animals from Cruel TreatmentResolution D016 |
Stewardship: The Protection of Animals from Cruel TreatmentResolved, That the 74th General Convention recognize that
responsible care of animals falls within the stewardship of
creation; and be it further Resolved, That The Episcopal Church encourage its members
to ensure that husbandry methods for captive and domestic animals
would prohibit suffering in such conditions as puppy mills,
and factory-farms; and be it further Resolved, That The Episcopal Church's Peace and Justice Office identify existing guidelines to educate its members to adhere to ethical standards in the care and treatment of animals; and be it further Resolved, That The Episcopal Church, through its Office of Government Relations, identify and advocate for legislation protecting animals and effective enforcement measures.Explanation: The welfare of animals and their just treatment--whether pets, wild animals, animals used in laboratory experiments, farm animals, performing animals, or any other form of animal life are essential parts of our reponsibility as stewards towards the whole of creation.Submitted by

The EpEN is a national network of active lay and clergy persons within the Episcopal Church, USA, who share a common concern for the environment and a common belief in the presence of God in all Creation and who work to make these concerns and beliefs known throughout all Provinces and Dioceses within the church.
