Executive Council Resolution prior to
74th General Convention (2003)
of the Episcopal Church, USA

The 70th General Convention of the Episcopal Church, USA met in Minneapolis, MN, in July 2001. Prior to the General Convention, the Executive Council passed the following Resolution:

Support for Environmental Principles

Executive Council resolution: EXC062001.12

Resolved, That the Salt Lake City meeting of the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church urges the President of the United States to address the issue of global warming and take the necessary steps to reduce green house gas emissions in the United States.

Resolved, That the Episcopal Church urges the President of the United States and Congress to provide financial support and leadership for developing nations to control their emissions of greenhouse gases in order to reduce their vulnerability to climate change and severe weather disasters.

Resolved, That the Episcopal Church urges the President of the United States and congress to provide funds and leadership in an effort to encourage renewable energy, energy efficiency and conservation.

The EpEN is a national network of active lay and clergy persons within the Episcopal Church, USA, who share a common concern for the environment and a common belief in the presence of God in all Creation and who work to make these concerns and beliefs known throughout all Provinces and Dioceses within the church. Members come from around the Episcopal Church USA. The activities of the EpEN are focused on the areas of Reflection, Education, and Action.
