Episcopal Resolutions

Passed and Pending Resolutions:

The list, below, represents the resolutions of individual dioceses and of the Episcopal Church, USA, concerning the environment. If there is a missing resolution, please send the text of the resolution or the URL of its location to news[@eenonline.org] (please remove the square brackets before sending the e-mail).

2009

Proposed Resolutions relating to the environment to be considered at the 76th General Convention.

This first list contains resolutions (in priority order) supported by the EpEN at their booth (#747) at the convention. On the individual resolution pages are links to talking points assembled by the EpEN for use when speaking to committees during General Convention. Status as of 2009-08-14 listed in parentheses. Pages for each resolution will be updated in September to reflect verbiage and status.

  1. A035: Establishment of Environmental Commission (both houses "concurred" with the totally revised resolution that recommends that the Episcopal Church "establish a Group to evaluate the current system of standing commissions". Pending completion of that evaluation and report to the 77th General Convention (2012), "no new Standing Commissions [shall] be established". Thus, the
establishment of an environmental commission is delayed until at least 2012.)
  2. C034: Creation Cycle of the Pentecost Season (Joint Bishop/Deputy Committee on Prayer Book and Liturgy has assigned it to consideration for the 77th General Convention for the Standing Committee on Music and Liturgy. Does not pass this session. May be revisited before the 77th General Convention.)
  3. B001: Amendment to the Parochial Report (did not pass)
  4. C070: Memorializing the Genesis Covenant (passed)
  5. A112: Episcopal Network for Economic Justice (did not pass)
  6. A045: Restricting use of Bottled Water, Energy and Water Conservation (was adopted with amendment by both Houses and asks the Church to restrict the use of bottled water at General Convention and at other Church-sponsored activities, and that every baptized Christian be encouraged to practice simple energy and water conservation techniques.)
  7. C011: Governmental Policies for Environmental Stewardship (Revised and passed)
  8. C012: Scientific Integrity and Environmental Policy (Revised and passed)
